BDI strongly condemns the attacks on Hindu temples and the desecration and destruction of sacred idols throughout Bangladesh. These ugly and coordinated attacks are criminal acts, designed to strike terror in communities; they must be investigated and the culprits punished. In addition, those with local and regional administrative and policing power must be held accountable. The freedom to practice one’s religion is a foundational principle of the country and a fundamental prerequisite to a thriving democracy. It is our duty to guard this basic right for everyone in Bangladesh.
